Google Business Profile: a guide for Glasgow businesses
When someone in Glasgow searches for what you do, the map results usually appear above everything else. Your Google Business Profile is how you get into them. It is free, and getting the basics right makes a real difference.
Set it up properly
- Claim or create your profile at google.com/business
- Choose the most accurate main category, then a few secondary ones
- Use your real business name, with no extra keywords
- If customers do not visit you, hide your address and set your service area instead
- Add opening hours, phone number and your website
Keep your details identical everywhere
Your business name, address and phone number should match exactly on your profile, your website and any directories. Small differences, such as “Rd” on one and “Road” on another, can confuse Google about whether they are the same business.
Reviews matter most
Reviews are one of the strongest signals for the map results. Ask every happy customer, make it easy with a direct link, and reply to every review, good or bad, politely and promptly.
Keep it active
- Add real photos of your work, premises and team
- Post updates and offers now and then
- Answer questions people ask on your profile
- Keep hours up to date, especially around holidays
Your website still matters
Google looks at your website to understand what you do and where. A fast site that names your services and the areas you cover supports your profile. Every website we build includes that groundwork.
